Like many mothers, I spent much of my daughter’s early days fretting about breastfeeding. Was her head at the right angle? Did she have enough of my breast in her mouth? Was enough of her lip rolled out? I also struggled with the usual discomforts as my nipples adjusted to their new role, as well as … [Read more...] about Mindful Breastfeeding
Stories
In La Leche League, your story matters more than you might realise. When you share your own breastfeeding journey — the ups, the doubts, the quiet victories — you’re giving someone else the courage to keep going. Maybe she’s a new mum feeling unsure or overwhelmed, and hearing your experience helps her feel seen and less alone. Your honesty can bring comfort, encouragement, and a sense of hope. And when others share their stories with you, it reminds you that you're part of something bigger — the global LLL community, parents learning from and supporting each other.
We want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has shared their story for our website.
If you feel inspired to tell your own story, we warmly encourage you to send it in for our member publication _Breastfeeding Matters_, or come along to a meeting and share in person. Your story could be exactly what someone else needs to hear.

Breastfeeding… My Ally
My breastfeeding journey started nearly 16 years ago when I had my first child, Dylan. He was a much planned for baby, despite the naivety of only being 20 years old myself. My family wasn’t very pleased and I didn’t know any other mums with children: when I went to antenatal sessions or playgroups … [Read more...] about Breastfeeding… My Ally
Twelve months of mothering – Newborn
Being pregnant can be amazing, challenging, wonderful, energising and, tiring; so many things. In our cerebral culture, where we think too much, many of us are unprepared for the physicality of making a whole new person within us. Then we have a baby, the rite of passage of birth often spoken of … [Read more...] about Twelve months of mothering – Newborn
Finding the right support
My second child has recently turned one and I find myself once again breastfeeding a wriggling, giggling, distractible toddler. My breastfeeding journey
I never for a moment doubted that I would breastfeed, it had never even crossed my mind that I might not be able to breastfeed; unless you count the times I imagined what would happen if I died or became hospitalised and wasn’t allowed access to my baby. During pregnancy, I couldn’t really think … [Read more...] about My breastfeeding journey
Moving heaven and earth
Before my first baby was born, I fully expected that I would happily return to the teaching work which I loved, and that in most ways my life would carry on as before. My husband and I had just bought a house with a mortgage that depended on our two salaries. I had accepted the terms of my … [Read more...] about Moving heaven and earth
I’m shy about breastfeeding in public
When my baby was a newborn we stayed at home a lot because I was shy about breastfeeding in public. Then we got the hang of it, and it was lovely being out and about together. But now he’s four months old and very easily distracted, so when we feed in public he often pulls off to look around, … [Read more...] about I’m shy about breastfeeding in public
Mothering through special care
Rebecca’s second son was born early, and spent several weeks in Special Care. Here she writes of that difficult early time, and of learning to balance her fragile newborn’s needs with those of her older child. Throughout my first pregnancy I felt like some sort of earth goddess woman – strong and … [Read more...] about Mothering through special care
Finding my people
Vicky had a lot of troubles when she started breastfeeding her son: she turned to LLL for practical advice, and stayed for the emotional support that comes from being surrounded by like-minded mothers. 'I'll give breastfeeding a go but I'm not going to martyr myself or my baby doing it'. So I … [Read more...] about Finding my people
In praise of at-breast supplementers
Rosie’s low milk supply has meant that she has used an at-breast supplementer since her son was five weeks old. Here she tells us the practical details of how this is working for her and her son.
