Interested in Becoming a Leader?
A La Leche League Leader is someone who has breastfed their own child(ren) and who enjoys helping others to do so. LLL Leaders are all unpaid volunteers. To become accredited, a La Leche League Leader is required to complete a programme of breastfeeding education, and to develop counselling and group facilitation skills.
Being a La Leche League Leader is deeply rewarding, and the role can grow and change over time. Once accredited, you can volunteer with LLL anywhere in the world. La Leche League is committed to creating a diverse body of Leaders who reflect the communities they serve.
Read Thinking About LLL Leadership to find out the requirements for applying.
Watch a series of videos about the process of preparing for Leadership here.
If you think it might be the right role for you, speak to your local Leader or contact applicationenquiries@laleche.org.uk.
Supporting your local group
Our Leaders are supported by amazing local volunteers, and we’re so thankful for their help. Volunteers support groups by taking on a range of roles, including (but not limited to):
- Treasurer
- Librarian
- Making cups of tea
- Entertaining toddlers and older children at meetings
- Fundraising
Your local Leader can let you know what help is needed – please do get in touch!
National Volunteering
LLLGB’s national work is also supported by volunteers who contribute in areas such as:
- Creating content (stories, artwork, poetry…) for our member publication Breastfeeding Matters.
- Contributing photos for use in our publications, social media, and website.
- Supporting admin, fundraising, marketing, and graphic design.
If you have skills in photography, web design, admin, marketing, fundraising, or graphic design, and would like to help, we’d love to hear from you.

Maria, an LLL Leader from South East London, is running the Pembrokeshire marathon on 25 April for LLLGB – a charity that is very close to her heart. Maria is honouring 70 years of LLLI, 55 years of LLLGB and 15 years of being an LLL Leader – three fantastic milestones of breastfeeding support. If you are able please sponsor her.
