Black Breastfeeding week is celebrated during the last week of August. Its aim is to give voice to Black women’s voices and lived experiences which have historically been underrepresented.
In La Leche League, stories matter. Sharing our stories connects us with something bigger — the global community of mothers and peers, learning from and supporting each other.
Here Melissa recorded audio notes of her experience of breastfeeding whilst walking around getting her five month old to sleep.
1. Why does breastfeeding matter to you?
2. Prior to having your own children what was your perception of breastfeeding? had anyone else breastfed in your family?
3. What were your friends’ and family’s attitude towards breastfeeding?
4. What do you wish you had known before embarking on your feeding journey? What barriers did you face?
5. What were useful sources of help and support on your nursing journey?
6. How have you built your supportive community?
