On November 16th 2024 La Leche League Great Britain (LLLGB) held the charity’s Annual General Meeting. The business included the election of Directors (Trustees), some of whom are new to the Council. This statement is from the current Council.
Following the resignation of Marian Tompson, one of La Leche League’s Founders, and Miriam Main, one of our former Trustees, LLLGB is aware that concern has been expressed about the support we offer.
Since the 1950s (1970s in Great Britain), La Leche League has been a world leader in supporting pregnant and breastfeeding women and their children. We recognise that every family is unique. We aim to provide accurate breastfeeding information and friendly, non-judgemental support tailored to the needs of each individual. The welfare of all who come to us for help, and of our volunteers, is of paramount concern to us.
While the world was a very different place in 1956 when La Leche League was founded, the needs of babies haven’t changed. Each generation still faces challenges and questions, and every family needs a strong support network.
Thanks to our Founders and La Leche League Leaders worldwide, countless mothers have found the help they needed and have gone on to enjoy the breastfeeding relationship that felt right for them.
LLLGB’s Trustees will continue listening, reflecting, and acting to ensure that our charity continues to provide excellent, equitable breastfeeding support and adapts to serve the needs of future generations of babies, mothers, parents and families. As Trustees we are committed to fulfilling all our legal responsibilities, including those arising from our charitable objects and The Equality Act 2010.
Our work – supporting breastfeeding – continues as usual. Our accredited volunteer breastfeeding counsellors offer free help through in person and virtual group meetings, a telephone callback service, email Helpforms, and social media platforms. We would love to support you and your baby.
