• La Leche League is an international charity, formed over 40 years ago in the USA
• Over 3000 Groups meet in 63 countries, with over 7000 accredited Leaders (breastfeeding counsellors).
• LLL is the source and repository of the world's most complete and up-to-date collection of information on breastfeeding.
• We have information available in 25 languages, including Braille, and through websites.
• We have a formal working relationship with the World Health Organisation
• We also have consultative status with the United Nations

La Leche League (Great Britain)

• was established in the 1970s and functions as an affiliate with its own Council of Directors
• has over 180 Leaders, 80 Groups and 1100 members
• all Leaders and directors work as volunteers
• is represented on:
  National Network of Breastfeeding Co-ordinators
  Scottish Joint Breastfeeding Initiative
  Unicef Baby Friendly Initiative Steering Committee
• is an advisor to the Baby Feeding Law Group(UK)
• is involved with local Health Trust Breastfeeding Working Groups
• provides information and support to any mother wishing to breastfeed
• LLL(GB) Leaders help over 6000 mothers a year
